Get Fiber Skinny

How Much Is Enough?
Most Americans eat between 10-25 grams of fiber per day but you should eat between 20-35 grams of fiber per day.

You can tell if you’re getting enough fiber by your stool. If your stool floats and passes easily, you are getting enough fiber per day. On the other hand, if your stool is loose, you are taking in too much fiber per day.


How To Add Fiber
When fiber is combined with a nutritious diet it will assist with weight loss. Add fiber slowly to the diet to avoid bloating and gas, and drink plenty fluids. Eight glasses of liquid are recommended per day because fibrous foods draw water from the intestines and can cause constipation.


Select a variety of high fiber foods to receive the benefits of both the water-soluble and water-insoluble foods. Use more foods in the raw state and eat skins when possible. Substitute high fiber carbohydrates (e.g. the apple) for lower carbohydrates (e.g. the juice) when possible.
