Atkin‘s Diet

Rules of the Diet:
The basics of this fad diet is an extremely low carbohydrate level. Avoiding carbohydrates in your diet keeps your body from adding weight. So, for this diet to work you have to eat less than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day.

Free Meats and Cheeses:
Since meats and cheeses have no carbohydrates, you can eat as much as you want on the Atkins diet. You can have as much of these items as you want. Use the chart below as an example of the meats and cheeses.

Meat: Beef, Pork, Lamb, Bacon, Veal, Ham, and Venison
Fish: Tuna, Salmon, Sole, Trout, Flounder, Sardines, and Herring
Fowl: Chicken, Turkey, Duck, Goose, Quail, Pheasant, and Cornish Hen
Shellfish: Oysters, Mussels, Clams, Squid, Shrimp, Lobster, and Crab
Eggs: Scrambled, Fried, Poached, Soft Boiled, Hard Boiled, and Deviled
Cheese: Aged & Fresh, Cow & Goat, Cream Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Swiss and Cheddar

Not Bad Vegetables:
A serving of these vegetables contain less than 10% of you daily carbohydrate amount. So, you can eat three cups of these vegetables and you're alright.

Lettuce, Escarole, Arugula, Endive, Radicchio, Chicory, Sorrel, Mache, Bock Choy, Chives, Cucumber, Parsley Radishes, Fennel, Peppers, Celery, Jicama, Alfalfa Sprouts, Mushrooms, Olives

Other Vegetables:
These vegetables have a little more carbohydrates than the ones listed in the chart above. So you can't have more than 1 cup a day.

Asparagus, String beans, wax beans, etc., Cabbage, Beet Greens, Cauliflower, Chard, Eggplant, Kale, Kohlrabi, Tomato, Onion, Rhubard, Scallions, Leeks, Spinach, Summer, Squash, Zucchini, Okra, Pumpkin, Turnips, Avocado, Bamboo Shoots, Bean Sprouts, Water, Chestnuts, Snow Pea Pods, Sauerkraut, Collard Greens, Dandelion Greens, Broccoli,Spaghetti Squash, Celery Root, Brussel Sprouts, Artichoke Hearts, Hearts of Palm

High Carbohydrate Foods:
These foods are not allowed on the Atkins diet do to the high carbohydrate level. Here is a chart of the high Carbohydrate foods.

High Carbohydrate Foods to Avoid:
Breads, Cereals, Grains, Sugars, Candy, Pasta, Rice, or anything made from flour, Non-diet soda, Juice, Fruit, Potato, Chips, Alcohol, Beer
